Most technical specifications of the G9 are identical to that of the G7. The G9 still uses the DIGIC III image processor and the same f/2.8-4.8 35mm-210mm-equivalent, optically stabilized 6x zoom lens. The only major differences is a bump to a 1/1.7-inch 12-megapixel CCD from a 1/1.8-inch, 10-megapixel version and the return to raw-format support.
The Canon PowerShot G9 visually looks identical to the G7. There really isn't anything new about the G9 other than a few minor performance increases here are there. So if you're looking for a nice point-and-shoot camera to compliment your DSLR, or if you're looking for a camera that is bigger and better than something you can just slip in your pocket, the Canon PowerShot G9 will suit your needs perfectly.
